What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is both a martial art and a competitive sport. It focuses on leverage, technique, and ground control rather than striking, making it safer and more strategic than many other martial arts.
– As a martial art: BJJ teaches practical self-defense skills, emphasizing control and submissions without relying on punches or kicks.
– As a sport: Students can train recreationally or compete in tournaments where matches are scored based on position, control, and submission attempts.
– Main differences from other martial arts:
• No striking — BJJ is grappling-based.
• Emphasis on technique over strength.
• Realistic self-defense applications for all ages and body types.

How do you handle different personalities or learning styles?
Every child is unique. We provide structure for kids who need boundaries, encouragement for those who are shy, and appropriate challenge for those who are energetic and eager.
Can parents watch classes?

Which classes can I attend as a beginner?
Both Gi and No-Gi Fundamentals classes are perfect starting points for beginners. These sessions focus on core techniques, safety, and building confidence. White belts with fewer than two stripes may also join Intermediate classes with professor approval based on experience and readiness.
Do you have women-only classes?

However, many women choose to train together during mixed classes for comfort, shared goals, and community support. Our school emphasizes a safe, respectful environment where all students feel welcome.
